OVI Checkpoints in Springdale, Hamilton and Cincinnati Tonight.

There are three OVI checkpoints planned for Ohioans in the City of Hamilton, Cincinnati and Springdale.Springdale: A checkpoint will be held in the 11700 block of Springfield Pike. Operations will begin at 11:30 p.m. Friday and end at 3 a.m. Saturday morning. Cincinnati: A checkpoint will be held in the 2000 block of Harrison Avenue. The checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end at 1 a.m. Saturday. Kettering OVI Patrols Stepped Up For St. Patrick’s Day

You can expect increased Kettering OVI patrols over the holiday.  Kettering has announced increased St. Patrick's OVI patrols beginning Monday, March 17, at 7 p.m. and running through 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 18.  The funding for these St. Patrick's OVI saturation patrols is provided by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office and local court funds. OSP Announces Super Bowl DUI Blitz

This week, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that they will conduct a Super Bowl DUI blitz.   The Super Bowl blitz is a joint operation of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), along with the National Football League (NFL) and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition, have joined forces with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO).  More than 99 local law enforcement agencies around the state will be providing extra enforcement funded by federal grants provided through OTSO.  During last year’s Super Bowl, the Patrol made 63 OVI...

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign Continues Until New Year’s Day

Today is “All Out Day”

You may notice more troopers on the roadways today - Thats because today is "All Out Day."All sworn officers from all ranks of the state Highway Patrol will take to Ohio roadways Friday in a safety and awareness campaign the agency is calling “All Out Day.” All available units will be out on the road to enforce traffic laws and look for any criminal activity.  The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be conducting "All Out Day" throughout Friday, April 19.  The initiative consists of high visibility enforcement on the roads to deter drunk driving.  We know of one OVI checkpoint which...

Super Bowl DUI Patrols 2013

This weekend, more than 81 local law enforcement agencies around the state will be conducting more than 1,925 hours of enforcement activity and 1,100 hours of saturation patrols, funded by federal grants provided through OTSO.  The FBI compared saturation patrols vs. checkpoints in Ohio, Missouri and Tennessee.  The study showed that "Overall, measured in arrests per hour, a dedicated saturation patrol is the most effective method of apprehending offenders (Source: FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, January 2003).  As this author has long argued, the saturation patrol is also more in keeping with American standards of justice than a checkpoint, as officers...
