Dayton OVI Checkpoint Update for August 20, 2010

The Combined Agency OVI Taskforce of Montgomery County will operate an sobriety checkpoint in Clayton on Friday night.  Other OVI checkpoints scheduled for Friday night will be in Defiance, Logan, Mahoning, Scioto and Lorain counties. The exact locations will be announced Friday morning, as well as the counties involved in the Saturday night checkpoints.  It has not been announced whether Butler and Warren counties will be included.  The checkpoints are part of the “Ohio OVI Checkpoint weekend” designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Major OVI Checkpoint Initiative Across Ohio August 20-Sept 6

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers across the state will operate OVI checkpoints along side local law enforcement to deter and intercept impaired drivers this week as part of a mobilization effort for the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest" campaign.  The campaign will last from August 20th through September 6th. As a kick-off to the DUI initiative, the Combined Agency OVI Taskforce for Montgomery County held a press conference today at Sinclair University.  The OVI Taskforce has set aside 690 hours of overtime to conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols concentrating on arresting impaired drivers. We have checked with the Dayton Daily News, the Springfield News Sun, WHIO News, the Clark County Sheriff, the Montgomery County Sheriff, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Posts in Greene, Clark & Montgomery Counties and 700 WLW News.   As of this posting there are no Sobriety Checkpoints scheduled for this weekend.  We will keep you informed as information becomes available. There will be a checkpoint tonight in Hamilton on Rt. 4 from 11pm-4am. (Source WLW News); WHIO News reports increased trooper presence and patrols near Sidney, Shelby County. Dayton OVI Sobriety Checkpoint Update: July 17, 2010

I have checked with all of our regular sources and there appears to be no sobriety checkpoints scheduled tonight in the Miami Valley.  There will be two checkpoints tonight in Cincinnati.  The first will be from 9-11 pm, on North Bend Road.  The second OVI checkpoint will be from midnight until 2 am on Colerain near Blue Spruce.  The Clermont County checkpoint will be on Rt. 52 near mile marker 7 (in Neville) from 4-8pm.  The underlying theory of OVI checkpoints is not to arrest drunk drivers but to instill fear of arrest in the law-abiding public.  By advertising these...

Checkpoint tonight in Springboro. It will happen from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on State Route 741, between Pennyroyal Road and Lytle-Five Points Road. There are no checkpoints scheduled this weekend in Greene County according to Ohio State Highway Patrol in Greene County.
