Thanksgiving OVI Checkpoint Update

There will be two Thanksgiving OVI checkpoints in Montgomery County tonight (Wed., Nov. 25th). The first checkpoint will be held in the 3300 block of North Dixie Drive from 7-9 p.m. and the second, from 10 p.m. to midnight, will be in the 2500 block of Needmore Road.  Police officers and other officials want these checkpoints publicized to help people plan ahead and avoid a DUI/OVI arrest. If you need a ride this holiday, the ArriveSafe program is picking up the tab. ArriveSafe provides rides for Montgomery County residents, from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 to 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29....

There Are Better Ways To Enforce OVI Law

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently concluded its annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” OVI campaign, a 20-day enforcement effort running through Labor Day. The national crackdown aims to prevent the incidence of impaired driver related highway fatalities over the extended Labor Day weekend. In Ohio, the statewide “Drive Sober” campaign means local law enforcement will conduct grant-funded high-visibility OVI checkpoints in an effort to catch any drivers who’ve had too many beers at a Labor Day barbecue. These well-intentioned enforcement efforts, however, are misguided, ineffective and violative of American values. Dismal arrest rates are common across Ohio and the country,...

Ohio OVI Blitz Continues Through Labor Day

This weekend saw local jurisdictions fully implement the annual Ohio OVI blitz known as "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."  The enforcement action will last until September 7, 2015 and will be accompanied by radio, television and news coverage. The efforts are funded by massive federal grants and allows local and state police forces to garner massive overtime for the troops. When coupled with the "cash cow" of issuing multiple tickets (no seat belt, no insurance, driving under suspension) at checkpoints designed to catch drunk drivers we can see why, despite the massive social success of anti-drunk driving norms, your local...

OVI Crackdown: Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over

OVI Crack Down Throughout Ohio.  Aug. 21 through Sept. 7 (Labor Day), law enforcement partners nationwide will show zero tolerance for drunk driving. Increased state and national messaging about the dangers of driving drunk, coupled with checkpoints and increased officers on the road, aim to drastically increase OVI arrests. This is part of the annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. There will be three sobriety checkpoints in the Miami Valley area tonight and multiple checkpoints throughout Ohio. Kettering will be holding its checkpoint on Saturday, with details of the location released Saturday morning. The Germantown Police Department will conduct a checkpoint from...

Beavercreek OVI Checkpoint Perfectly Challenged!

There were some visitors at last night's Beavercreek OVI checkpoint.  If you were driving near Wright State University last night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol in conjunction with many other law enforcement agencies were randomly stopping cars and searching Americans without probable cause.  This unwarranted show of force was sanctioned by the fact that the officers were deterring drunk drivers.  Many of us have been fighting OVI checkpoints for years, but recently a new phenomenon has taken place. Some very brave, very committed and very American people have been showing up at these checkpoints holding signs and telling people of the government...

OVI Checkpoints Miss The Point Says ABI

The American Beverage Institute is an industry-sponsored advocacy group that has stood up to Mother Against Drunk Drivers and their campaing for government funded OVI checkpoints. The beverage group says that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) should back off from the roadblocks and instead support roving patrols to catch heavy drinkers. "By promoting sobriety checkpoints, MADD and NHTSA are ignoring the root cause of today's drunk driving problem - hard core alcohol abusers,'' ABI managing director Sarah Longwell said in a statement."Because they are highly visible by design and publicized in advance, roadblocks...

Clark County OVI Checkpoint Tonight (May 29, 2015)

There will be a Clark County OVI checkpoint tonight in New Carlisle along St. Rt. 235.  The checkpoint is being run by the Clark County OVI Task Force and there is no indication that the stops will be a NO-REFUSAL/FORCED BLOOD DRAW checkpoint. As you will recall, Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelley has vowed not to participate in No-Refusal checkpoints due to protests which occurred late last year.  The protests were spearheaded by various local organizations loosely tied to the Cop-Block movement. We give you information about checkpoints so that you can plan ahead and designate a sober driver. If you find...
