Clark County OVI Checkpoint (Nov. 23rd)

UPDATE:  OVI Checkpoint In Springfield Today An OVI checkpoint will be manned by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officers on Wednesday from 8:30 p.m. until 12 midnight in downtown Springfield along U.S. 40 in front of the new hospital building.  Assisting in the checkpoint will be the Springfield Police Division, Clark County Sheriff Deputies, the Enon Police and medical personnel.  We had previously reported that a second checkpoint was operating in the afternoon in Springfield, but this report was wrong. DUI Checkpoints: Are They Justified (Still)?

U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Sobriety Checkpoints, Michigan v. Sitz, 496 U.S. 444 (1990) In 1986, the Michigan State Police Department created a sobriety checkpoint program aimed at reducing drunk driving within the state. The program included guidelines governing the location of roadblocks and the amount of publicity to be given to the operation. Before the first roadblock went into effect, Rick Sitz, a licensed Michigan driver, challenged the checkpoints and sought declaratory and injunctive relief.
