Rowland Certified on Intoxilyzer 8000

TRowland Certifiedhis week, in New Orleans, I became the first attorney in the State of Ohio certified on the Intoxilyzer 8000 breath testing instrument. This class was the first to allow private attorney to have access to the Intoxilyzer 8000 and I, proudly, was the only person tested from Ohio. Result? Rowland certified!

Ohio has had the same breath testing devices in for many years. There had been two basic machines that they used, the BAC Data Master and the Intoxilyzer-5000. And, twenty years elapsed before Ohio’s Department of Health, adopted a new machine, and they adopted this Intoxilyzer-8000.

It is vital that your attorney be prepared to defend you against this new, and questionable, machine. Also, you want to have an attorney that has worked with the machine. I have learned the methodology of the device. In addition, I got to see the weaknesses and pitfalls that may affect my clients. Also, we reviewed defects found by DUI attorneys in other states.  At one point, volunteer drinkers were brought in and we saw them complete the field tests. Later, they tested on the Intoxilyzer 8000.

The course concluded with a very difficult test. If you did not know your stuff, you did not pass and had to repeat the 2-hour long process. The test was a written and practical test. I feel like I am ready when Ohio implements this stuff.

In addition, I received training on the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests courtesy of member of the Georgia Highway Patrol.  I dedicate my  practice to defending the drunk driver.
