St. Patrick’s Day OVI Checkpoints in Montgomery County

There will be two OVI checkpoints in Montgomery County on St. Patrick's Day. The first will be from 7 p.m. until approximately 9 p.m. at 10501 Success Ln. near Austin Pike. The second is from approximately 9:30 p.m. until midnight at 790 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. Both of these locations are in Washington Township.In addition to the OVI checkpoints, there will be an all-out police effort to detect and deter drunk drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently concluded its annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” OVI campaign, a 20-day enforcement effort running through Labor Day. The national crackdown aims to prevent the incidence of impaired driver related highway fatalities over the extended Labor Day weekend.In Ohio, the statewide “Drive Sober” campaign means local law enforcement will conduct grant-funded high-visibility OVI checkpoints in an effort to catch any drivers who’ve had too many beers at a Labor Day barbecue. Traffic Fatalities In Ohio On The Rise

As of Sunday, there were 665 traffic fatalities in Ohio. By mid-August 2014, there were 571 confirmed fatalities due to traffic crashes, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. This trend is happening all over the country. According to the National Safety Council, the United States had a 14 percent spike in traffic fatalities during the first half of the year. The Illinois-based organization said that about 19,000 people died in traffic crashes through June, up from 16,180 for the same period in 2014. Troopers Will Ticket You For Seat Belt Law Violations Starting Monday! On Monday (May 18, 2015) the Ohio State Highway Patrol will begin a seat belt law enforcement blitz targeting drivers and passengers who are not buckled up. Ohio OVI Enforcement Statistics Year-To-Date

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released year-to-date statistics on its Ohio OVI Enforcement.  2014 saw 2,100 arrests for OVI.  There was an increase in 2015 to 2,367 arrests.  Greene County saw arrests jump from 25 in 2014 to 47 this year. Montgomery County jumped from 58 arrests in 2014 to 72 this year. Later this month, Charles M. If you are driving along Interstate 75 this weekend, be aware of an Ohio OVI and marijuana enforcement blitz that may cause you to get stopped.OVI: The Ohio State Highway Patrol will team up with law enforcement officials from Florida to Michigan along the Interstate 75 corridor for the third I-75 Challenge.
