Dayton DUI Checkpoint Set for August 20th in Clay Township

The Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County will be holding an OVI sobriety checkpoint in the Township of Clay, Montgomery County on August 20, 2010.  The Clay Township Police Department will be the Command and Control Agency for the checkpoint and operational support will be provided by the Miami Township Police Department, Five Rivers Metro Park Rangers, German Township Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Box 21 and other law enforcement officers from the Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County.  The exact location of the checkpoint will not be released until tomorrow. Dayton OVI Checkpoint Update for August 20, 2010

The Combined Agency OVI Taskforce of Montgomery County will operate an sobriety checkpoint in Clayton on Friday night.  Other OVI checkpoints scheduled for Friday night will be in Defiance, Logan, Mahoning, Scioto and Lorain counties. The exact locations will be announced Friday morning, as well as the counties involved in the Saturday night checkpoints.  It has not been announced whether Butler and Warren counties will be included.  The checkpoints are part of the “Ohio OVI Checkpoint weekend” designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Major OVI Checkpoint Initiative Across Ohio August 20-Sept 6

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers across the state will operate OVI checkpoints along side local law enforcement to deter and intercept impaired drivers this week as part of a mobilization effort for the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest" campaign.  The campaign will last from August 20th through September 6th. Dangers of Texting Outweigh Drinking or Smoking Marijuana

Texting while Driving Even More Dangerous than Driving while Drunk or High on Marijuana Research in Great Britain has found that texting behind the wheel is more dangerous than driving while intoxicated or under the influence of marijuana (cannibis).  The study used a driving simulator with young drivers aged 17 to 24. Writing or reading text messages reduced reaction time by 35%. MADD Gets a “D” Rating from Charity-Watcher!

The American Institute of Philanthropy's (AIP) Charity Rating Guide & Watchdog Report has downgraded Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to a "D" rating on a A-F scale in its August 2010 report.American Beverage Institute (ABI) Director Sarah Longwell stated that, “Under the leadership of CEO Chuck Hurley, MADD further diminished its focus on victim services and educating Americans about the dangers of drunk driving, instead pushing anti-drinking, anti-alcohol public policies,”  The public needs to realize that MADD isn’t the same group it was 20 years ago.”Another charitable giving guide, Charity Navigator, gives MADD an...

Dayton OVI Sobriety Checkpoint Update: July 17, 2010

I have checked with all of our regular sources and there appears to be no sobriety checkpoints scheduled tonight in the Miami Valley.  There will be two checkpoints tonight in Cincinnati.  The first will be from 9-11 pm, on North Bend Road.  The second OVI checkpoint will be from midnight until 2 am on Colerain near Blue Spruce.  The Clermont County checkpoint will be on Rt. 52 near mile marker 7 (in Neville) from 4-8pm.  The underlying theory of OVI checkpoints is not to arrest drunk drivers but to instill fear of arrest in the law-abiding public.  By advertising these...
