“When the checkpoint ended at 2 a.m. Sunday, officers made one O.V.I arrest. They also charged 25 people for driving under suspension or without a license, issued 12 seat belt violations and 5 other traffic violations, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said. Also, one consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, one open alcohol container in a motor vehicle and 3 possession of marijuana citations were issued.”

It should be obvious (again) from these results that OVI checkpoints are an enormously ineffective tool against the dangers of drunk driving.  In addition they have little to no deterrent effect and are an amazingly expensive method of law enforcement, not to mention the deleterious effect that such heavy-handed government tactics have on the public’s perception in, and trust of, our police.  Join DaytonDUI in advocating a more effective approach to the problem of impaired driving.  Call Charles M.
