Repeal Day! 21st Amendment Ratified on 12/5/33

Buy a round for the bar, send someone a shot or split a bottle of wine with a stranger… IT’S REPEAL DAY!  On January 16th, 1919, Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment, outlawing alcohol and ostensibly putting an end to drunkenness, crime, mental illness, and poverty.  By 1932, President Roosevelt ran on a REPEAL ticket and, on December 5, 1933 Utah (yes, that Utah) became the final state voting in favor of repealing the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution.  So, raise a glass to the unofficial holiday celebrating every Americans rights.  What a better way to get our economy going!  The 21st Amendment reads;

SECTION 1. The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

SECTION 2. The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or possession of the United States for delivery or use there in of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited.

SECTION 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by conventions in the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
